School Direct Training Programme (tuition) is for high-quality graduates who want to be part of a school team from day one. We offer this route to teaching in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University. This route leads to a Post Graduate Diploma in Education with Qualified Teaching status. Very few universities offer this high level of academic rigour and we are very proud to be offering this to our Trainees.
If you decide to apply for the School Direct Training Programme (tuition) route, you will need to apply for a tuition fee loan through student services. Further information can be found at https://www.gov.uk/student-finance.
If your application is successful, you will be allocated a ‘home school’ within the consortium. You will be based and complete the majority of your school centred training in the ‘home school’. In accordance with ITT regulations, you will complete at least one alternative placement in another setting/school within the MAITT consortium.
As part of the training programme, all Trainees meet at the Matthew Arnold Training Centre each Friday and receive professional development from outstanding practitioners who work within the educational field. Our current cohort of Trainees has consistently rated this provision very highly.
On the School Direct Training Programme (tuition) route, you will attend Liverpool John Moores University at its I.M. Marsh campus in Aigburth for approximately 30 days per year. The remainder of the training takes place in schools and at the Matthew Arnold Training Centre. The programme begins with required attendance at an Induction week in August 2016 at Liverpool John Moores University. MAITT subscribes to Liverpool John Moores’ Mentor Programme which offers accreditation for mentors in our partner schools. The mentor programme from Liverpool John Moores is known national and internationally. The quality of this mentoring programme means that the MAITT Trainees have a high calibre of mentoring within the schools.
Due to the high academic demand of the course, applications to the tuition programme are only considered from those applicants who hold or are expecting to gain a 2:1 initial degree. In rare circumstances we will consider applicants with a lower second class degree if they have extensive school experience. You also need a standard equivalent to a grade C in GCSE English, Mathematics and Science. Additionally MAITT will be looking for applicants to be able to demonstrate a minimum of 10 days relevant schools experience. You must have registered/completed for their professional skills test before their interview and if subsequently offered a place on the programme successfully completed the tests within 28 days of the offer. Be available to engage in the Summer School which will be taking place at LJMU during August 2017.
