Physical Education

At Matthew Arnold Primary School, children will experience a wide variety of sports and games through Reception to Year 6. In Early Years, the focus is on core strength, coordination and gross movement skills. In KS1, children start to learn about a variety of sports, before building on these skills further in KS2.

Sports and Activities in KS1 include: Gymnastics, Boccia, Handball and Cricket.

Sports and Activities in KS2 include: Swimming, Football, Tag Rugby, Handball and Golf.

Teachers develop key skills for each activity before teaching the children to apply them in game situations. Life skills such as team-work and communication are developed alongside sporting skills.

Matthew Arnold has a recent history of sporting success in inter-school sporting competitions and staff regularly take children to a variety of sporting tournaments around the city.
