Teaching Phonics and Reading in Early Years

            

 

All children in Reception are taught synthetic phonics in order to help them read and write. We use schemes including ‘Letters and Sounds’ (Phase One) and ‘Read, Write Inc’ to help us do this. Children use a wide variety of scheme books to support their reading and are encouraged to read widely from a range of ‘free reading’ genre to develop their vocabulary and love of the written word.
